A Popoyo Story

Our Story | Pelícano Popoyo Villas – Nicaragua

From the Laurentians to the jungle of Popoyo.

I grew up in Prévost, a small town in the Laurentians in Québec. Forests, lakes, nature — that was my normal. I became an osteopath, built a large clinic, and had a full life. But full isn't always free.

In the summer of 2022, I came to Nicaragua for three months with one question: could I actually live here? I had no idea. I just needed to find out.

The answer came faster than I expected.

I found a piece of land in Popoyo. Untouched jungle. No paths, no structure, nothing cleared. It needed serious work — and I had no guaranteed outcome. But the moment I stood there and felt the wind, heard the silence, saw the space — I was done. I fell in love with it on the spot.

I went back to Québec, sold my clinic, sold almost everything, and eight months later I was back with a shovel and a vision.

We didn't want to build a hotel. We wanted to build the kind of place we'd want to stay in ourselves — private, comfortable, real. Somewhere you could actually exhale. Three villas, each with their own pool, surrounded by nature, two minutes from some of the best surf in Central America. The only property in Popoyo with fully independent private villas, each with its own pool

The idea was simple: show people Nicaragua the way we know it. Not a resort. Not a package tour. Just a beautiful place, yours for a week, where you can do exactly what you want.

That's Pelícano.
